ROSEMONT - 1969

History

The franchise has been operating since the league's inaugural season in 1969...

There was the National, the Voisins, the Titan, then the Regiment

The franchise which currently operates in Newfoundland, more precisely in St.John's, has been located in 4 different cities in almost 6 full decades.

In 1969, the Rosemont National joined 10 other teams to participate in the very first campaign in the history of the QMJHL.

The National played in Laval from 1971 and was renamed “Les Voisins” on the eve of the 1979-80 campaign. Finally, the franchise took the name "Titan" in 1985-86.

In Laval, they've seen goals!

309 GOALS!

Michel "Mike/Michael" Bossy is still in 1st place in the history of the best scorers in the history of the QMJHL in the regular season. It was in 1976-77, just before beginning his prolific professional career with the New York Islanders, that Bossy dislodged Jacques Jr Locas who had held the record since 1973-74 with 269 goals. SEE THE RECORD!

As for Mario Lemieux, the flamboyant centerman had the most prolific offensive season in the history of the league with a collection of 282 points, including 133 goals during the 1983-84 campaign.

Michel Bossy - he scored 309 goals in regular season, and added another 29 in the playoffs. Grand total: 338 goals in the QMJHL and he is in first place, just ahead of Jacques Jr Locas (Quebec | 1970=>1974) at 330.

SEASON 1983-1984

Number 66 - MARIO LEMIEUX!

The 1983-84 season was without a doubt one of the most publicized in the history of the QMJHL.

A unique athlete dominates, he is only 18 years old, his extraordinary talent combined with his impressive size of 6 feet 3 inches and 200 pounds, make all the organizations of the National League salivate. Mario Lemieux will become the very 1st choice of the National League in 1984, and it is the Pittsburgh Penguins who will obtain this "MAGNIFICENT" jewel.

In his last regular season game in the QMJHL, on March 14th, 1984, in a 16-4 win by the Voisins de Laval over the Chevaliers de Longueuil, he recorded 11 points. This was his best personal performance at the major junior level. His 6 goals allowed him to surpass Guy Lafleur's (Québec | 1970-71) record of 130 goals in a season. Mario Lemieux would thus establish an untouchable mark of 133 goals, and would complete his last junior season with 282 points after 70 games.

A real power and oh so intimidating!

The Laval Titan: no less than 5 finals in 7 years!

In the spring of 1993, the Titan were on their third playoff title in five years (1989 | 1990 | 1993). They would also make the League Finals in 1994 and 1995.

The Titan's home was nicknamed the "HOUSE OF PAIN". The opponent never had it easy during this period at the good old Colisée de Laval.

Titan champion again, this time at... BATHURST

At the end of the 1997-98 season, team owner Léo-Guy Morrissette announced that he was leaving the Colisée de Laval, where the team had played for 27 seasons, to move to the K.C. Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst, the team's current home.

Following the team's transfer to Acadia in New Brunswick, the Titan became conquerors again. Luongo, Benoit, Bouchard, Abid, Beauchemin, Girard, Groulx and company allowed the Titan to win the President Cup, against the Hull Olympiques in an interminable and difficult series of 7 games. Mathieu Benoit was awarded the title of player of the playoffs in 1999.

2018 - The Titan defeated the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in 6 games in the QMJHL grand final.

A 6th President Cup for the franchise, a 2nd at Bathurst

Over the years, the franchise has won no less than 6 titles in 11 participations in the final. In addition, it has won the regular season championship on 5 occasions. Certainly one of the most glorious franchises in the history of the QMJHL.

The 2017-18 season would be the most memorable and satisfying, however, as it ended in style. First, led by the man who would be named the QMJHL playoffs' "Most Valuable Player", captain Jeffrey Truchon-Viel, the Titan would lift the President Cup as champions of the QMJHL. Then, the team led by head coach Mario Pouliot will win the grand final of the 100th Memorial Cup challenge, shutting out (3-0) the host club of the competition, the Regina Pats (WHL).

The 100th Memorial Cup is being celebrated in style! The Acadie-Bathurst Titan take top honours, winning 3-0 against the Regina Pats in the 2018 Grand Final.

The End of the Titan in Bathurst

The very last game was played at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre on April 4, 2025...

On December 20, 2024, in the middle of the regular season, Marc Guignard and Serge Thériault, two of the Titan's 11 shareholders, had some very bad news to share with their fans. After a year of searching for new owners, accompanied by league commissioner Mario Cecchini, they confirmed that the Acadie-Bathurst Titan team had been sold to a trio of investors from Newfoundland and Labrador: John Harvey Patten, John R. Steele, and Jason Sharpe.

The team's long 27-season tenure in Bathurst will be remembered. They've experienced some tough times, but also some memorable, historic moments:

* 1 Memorial Cup (2018)

* 2 President Cups (1999 & 2018)

* 1 regular season championship (2001-02)

* 4 appearances in the League Finals (1999, 2001, 2002 & 2018)

* A game where QMJHL records were tied by the Titan, with Mathieu Benoit scoring 8 goals while defenseman François Beauchemin recorded 8 assists (1999-11-14)...
