DRUMMONDVILLE - 1982

History

After the Rangers, dissolved in 1974...

A new QMJHL franchise awarded to Drummondville

The Drummondville Voltigeurs made their debut in the Quebec major junior league in 1982.

After a difficult first season, the Voltigeurs would go on to have six consecutive seasons with a performance equal to or greater than .500.

They would reach the final for the first time in 1986, then in 1988 and 1991. On each occasion, their opponents were dominant, whether it was Hull (the first 2 times) or Chicoutimi in 1991.

Since the Memorial Cup tournament was held at the Colisée de Québec in May 1991, the Voltigeurs found themselves there with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. The Voltigeurs would eliminate Chicoutimi in the semi-finals, then lost in the grand final to the representatives of the Western League, the robust and intimidating Spokane Chiefs. This was the franchise's second appearance in the Memorial Cup tournament (1988).

Chartrand leads the Voltigeurs in other categories, with his 219 goals, as well as his 21 winning goals.

Ian Laperrière and René Corbet, after scoring a goal, made the Marcel-Dionne Center siren go off several times during their junior seasons with the Voltigeurs, from 1990 to 1994.
Ian Laperrière and René Corbet, after scoring a goal, made the Marcel-Dionne Center siren go off several times during their junior seasons with the Voltigeurs, from 1990 to 1994.

René Corbet lifted the Jean-Béliveau trophy given to the QMJHL scoring champion at the conclusion of the 1992-93 season with an individual harvest of 148 points.

Three more players in the organization have achieved the same feat: Daniel Brière (1995-96 | 163 points), Yannick Riendeau (2008-09 | 126 points) and Sean Couturier (2009-10 | 96 points).

It's the turn of Brière and Gauthier to write their names in the club's record book...

Daniel Brière (1994-95) - his rookie season of 123 points, including 51 goals and 72 assists... three records that are not likely to be broken!

Denis Jr Gauthier - his ardor for the game will make him a feared defenseman in the QMJHL. Beyond his physical game, he still scored 25 goals in 1995-96, which still gives him the mark to beat today for a Voltigeurs defenseman.

The Voltigeurs win the 2009 final against Shawinigan

At the end of the tightest final series in QMJHL history, according to experts, the Voltigeurs are finally enjoying their 1st President Cup.

A 7-game series where Guy Boucher's Voltigeurs managed to win 4 games, Éric Veilleux's Cataractes only won 3...

Drummondville scored 24 goals, and Shawinigan scored 20...

The Voltigeurs had taken a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series, but the Cataractes scored in overtime in game #6 to force a 7th game in Drummondville...

Yannick Riendeau - he scored 29 goals in the 2009 playoffs. In the final, he beat the opposing goalies 10 times in 7 games; 17 points in total on his team's 24 goals, this contribution to his team is almost unimaginable! It was enough to win the Guy-Lafleur Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player in the QMJHL playoffs.

Sean Couturier and his lifetime "Plus-Minus" differential of +141, a QMJHL record

He won the league's scoring championship in 2009-10, with 96 points.

In 2009-10, it would be the only time in a schedule of at least 64 games that the League's leading scorer did not collect at least 100 points. Tied with Nicolas Deschamps, as Sean Couturier scored more goals, the Jean-Béliveau Trophy was awarded to him as the scoring champion, after his 96-point season.

Two exemplary players involved in the community

Their performances on the ice were not affected!

They each received top honours from the League, as "Best Community Involvement" in turn: Charles-David Beaudoin in 2013-14, and in the case of Xavier Simoneau, it was in 2019-20.

Charles-David Beaudoin - he played 264 games with the Voltigeurs, which places him 3rd among defensemen in team history.

Season 2023-24

Playoff champions for a 2nd time!

The Voltigeurs had their 4th 100-point season in their history in 2023-24.

After finishing 2nd in the regular season behind Baie-Comeau, they took the measure of the latter in the Cecchini circuit grand final, quickly eliminating the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in 4 consecutive games.

In this series, the Voltigeurs scored 16 goals and allowed only 5.

Goaltender Riley Mercer multiplied his prowess in front of his net; he completed the playoffs with a 1.89 GAA and a .934 save percentage.
