2005 - the beginnings of the Sea Dogs
They arrived in the QMJHL at the same time as the St. John's Fog Devils.
In 2005-06, the QMJHL expanded again and the Saint John Sea Dogs played their first season.
One of the reasons for the great success the Sea Dogs have had over the years is actually the quality of the players they have drafted.
On 6 times, they talked first. They selected Alex Grant, Yann Sauvé and Simon Després at the very first overall pick in the QMJHL draft, three top defensemen called up in 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively, then in the mid-2010s came Luke Green (2014) and Joseph Veleno (2015), the latter as an exceptional 15-year-old player. More recently, in 2019, they picked Joshua Roy.
