2005 - the beginnings of the Sea Dogs

They arrived in the QMJHL at the same time as the St. John's Fog Devils.

In 2005-06, the QMJHL expanded again and the Saint John Sea Dogs played their first season.

One of the reasons for the great success the Sea Dogs have had over the years is actually the quality of the players they have drafted.

On 6 times, they talked first. They selected Alex Grant, Yann Sauvé and Simon Després at the very first overall pick in the QMJHL draft, three top defensemen called up in 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively, then in the mid-2010s came Luke Green (2014) and Joseph Veleno (2015), the latter as an exceptional 15-year-old player. More recently, in 2019, they picked Joshua Roy.

After the 2021-22 season, the Saint John team's championship tally is phenomenal:

* 4 times - Jean-Rougeau Trophies as regular season champions (2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2016-17)

* President Cup Final appearances including 3 championships (2011, 2012, 2017)

* Memorial Cup tournament appearances, including two Grand Final victories (2011, 2022)

Most of these aforementioned team titles were won under head coach Gerard Gallant.

The Sea Dogs swept all the honours in 2010-11. Their 58 wins tied the QMJHL record in the regular season... Previously, Sorel (58 | 1973-74), Trois-Rivières (58 | 1978-79), and later... Halifax (58 | 2012-13). Nowadays, this record is now that of the Huskies... ROUYN-NORANDA (59 wins | 2018-19).

Jonathan Huberdeau and head coach Gerard Gallant would have another excellent season together in 2011-12, winning a third consecutive regular season championship. A feat that no other team has achieved in 56 seasons in the QMJHL, that of claiming the Jean-Rougeau Trophy three times in a row.

In 2022, Sea Dogs fans quickly moved on from the quick elimination of their favorites in the first round of the QMJHL playoffs. Acting as the host club of the Memorial Cup tournament, they won the Canadian League Grand Final played at TD Station in Saint John, in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,849 spectators, on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. This 6-3 victory against the Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL), confirmed their 2nd quest for the Memorial Cup, after winning it in 2011.

Forward William Dufour scored 7 goals on 31 shots, in only 4 games in the tournament, and he was named the "Most Valuable Player" of the competition.
